Progarams | What We Do

Modern Mentor Inc. provides comprehensive, relationship-centered mentorship programming designed to empower girls and young women ages 13–22. Our work is grounded in the belief that consistent, trusted relationships and opportunities for self-expression are essential to healthy development, confidence, and long-term success.

Mentorship Program

The cornerstone of Modern Mentor Inc. is our one-to-one mentorship program. Each mentee is thoughtfully paired with a dedicated mentor who provides guidance, encouragement, and consistent support throughout the program year. Our mentorship program operates on a cohort model, with new mentors and mentees joining each September. The program runs from September through June, allowing participants to build strong relationships and grow together throughout the year. Throughout the cohort, mentees participate in monthly group meetings where mentors and mentees gather for workshops, discussions, and activities centered on key life skills and personal development topics, including:

● Healthy relationships and boundaries

● Self-care and mental wellness

● Financial literacy and money management

● Violence prevention and conflict resolution

● Career exploration and professional readiness

These sessions are designed to help young women develop confidence, strengthen decision-making skills, and build a supportive community of peers and mentors.

Once mentees complete the cohort year, they graduate into continued mentorship, where the focus shifts primarily to the ongoing one-to-one relationship with their mentor. These relationships often endure for years, providing mentors as a consistent support system as mentees navigate high school, college, and early adulthood.

Our mentorship model prioritizes relationship-building, accountability, and long-term connection, ensuring that every young woman has a trusted adult invested in her success.

Educational Travel Program

Modern Mentor’s Educational Travel Program is one of the most transformative experiences we offer. We recognize that access to travel and exposure is not equitable. Many of the young women in our program have limited opportunities to travel beyond their immediate neighborhoods or cities. As a result, we intentionally create opportunities for our mentees to explore new environments, cultures, and educational institutions.

Our annual trips are designed to expose participants to:

● Historically significant and culturally relevant sites

● Colleges and universities, including HBCUs

● Museums and educational landmarks

● Professional and career environments

Travel expands perspective. It helps young women envision future possibilities they may not have previously considered. Beyond education, these experiences foster independence, confidence, and curiosity while strengthening the bonds between mentors and mentees. Many participants describe these trips as the first time they truly saw themselves pursuing higher education or careers beyond what they had previously imagined.

Through intentional travel experiences, we aim to broaden horizons, inspire ambition, and show young women that the world is larger than the barriers they may face.

The Write Space – Modern Mentor Book Club

The Write Space is Modern Mentor Inc.’s book club designed to cultivate literacy, creativity, and self- expression among our mentees.

This program encourages young women to engage with culturally relevant and engaging books that reflect diverse voices, experiences, and perspectives.

Participants gather to:

● Read and analyze selected books together

● Discuss the plot, characters, and narrative themes.

● Explore how the stories connect to their own experiences.

● Develop critical thinking and communication skills.

A signature component of The Write Space is creative expression. Throughout the reading process, mentees are encouraged to journal their thoughts and reflections. At the end of each book, they can rewrite the ending from their own perspective. This activity empowers participants to explore their voice as storytellers, reimagine outcomes, and strengthen their writing and literacy skills. The Write Space provides a safe environment where young women can engage with literature while discovering the power of their own ideas and perspectives.

Academic Support & Tutoring

Modern Mentor partners with Achieve Academy to provide our mentees with access to academic tutoring. Through this partnership, students can receive additional support in subjects such as math and other core academic areas.

Academic success is an important part of our mentorship model, and tutoring ensures that mentees have access to the resources they need to stay on track with their educational goals.

By connecting mentees with academic support, we help reinforce the importance of education and build their confidence in their ability to succeed in school.

Hygiene Access & Basic Needs Support

Modern Mentor Inc. partners with Hope & Comfort, a nonprofit dedicated to improving access to hygiene products for individuals and families in need.

Through this partnership, we can distribute essential hygiene products to mentees, families, and community members. These products help ensure that young women have access to necessities that support their health, dignity, and overall well-being.

Addressing these needs is an important part of our commitment to supporting the whole person, recognizing that confidence and well-being begin with access to essential resources.

Community Leadership & Youth Engagement

Modern Mentor also organizes events that connect young women with community leaders and mentors. One example is our Annual Women’s History Brunch, hosted in partnership with Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy – Lower Mills.

This event brings together female leaders from various industries and backgrounds to share their stories, wisdom, and professional journeys with youth.

During the brunch, one student from Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy and one student from Modern Mentor were recognized for their excellence, leadership, and continued growth.

These experiences reinforce the importance of representation, mentorship, and community support in shaping the next generation of leaders.
